Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors will avoid jail time following his December conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2023, instead being ordered to participate in a domestic violence treatment program.
Majors, 34, faced up to a year in jail after a Manhattan jury found him guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment in connection with a March 2023 altercation with then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, a British actor and dancer, now 31.
In a split decision, the jury found Majors guilty of misdemeanor third-degree assault recklessly causing physical injury, and harassment in the second degree, while they found him not guilty of misdemeanor third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury and misdemeanor aggravated harassment in the second degree.
At sentencing on Monday, a judge imposed probation and a $250 fine, and ordered Majors to undergo a 52-week in-person domestic violence counseling program. The program will be based in Los Angeles, where Majors lives, and approved by the Los Angeles County's probation department.
A sample of Majors' DNA will also be collected as part of his sentence. Under the terms of his probation, if Majors is arrested again he could spend a year in jail. He is also prohibited from possessing, applying for or owning a firearm.
A full order of protection remains in place for Jabbari, who has since filed a civil lawsuit against Majors, claiming a "pattern of pervasive domestic abuse that began in 2021 and extended through 2023."
Following Majors' conviction, he was axed by Marvel Studios, which had cast him as the villain Kang the Conqueror, a role that could have come with multiple films and TV series.
Majors previously appeared in Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," and starred in "Creed III."
